The Lost Mine

First Session

The party meets Gundren Rockseeker in the Moonstone Mask, a floating tavern in Neverwinter. He offers them a job to take a wagon full of supplies to the town of Phandalin, a small settlement a number of days south east off the Triboar Trail. The pay is 10 gp each once they deliver the supplies to Barthen’s Provisions in Phandalin. Gundren is to head out a day ahead with his friend Sildar Hallwinter in order to take care of some business in town.
The party secures the wagon and supplies and heads out the next day.

After a few days travel on the High Road they turn east and head along the Triboar Trail. Soon they come upon the signs of an ambush. Two horses lay across the road shot with black quilled arrows. They are the mounts of Gundren and Sildar. The party notices goblins hiding in the brush on either side and quickly dispatches them. They find a trail where the goblins must have dragged their two captives back to their lair. Securing their wagon and entourage, they follow the goblins easily avoiding the traps along the trail.

Soon they come upon a cave entrance in a hillside. A small stream emerges from the mouth of the cave. They kill the lookouts hiding in the thicket outside the lair and enter the lair.

Soon they find themselves in a running battle with the Cragmaw goblins who attempt the wash the party out of the cave by releasing the dam to the stream and flooding them out. The party eventually finds the leader of the tribe, a vicious bugbear named Klarg and kills him and his wolf companion.

Alerting the rest of the goblins to the death of their leader they attempt to parlay for the life of Sildar Hallwinter who is currently the goblin’s captive. They catch the badly wounded Sildar who is thrown off a ledge by the goblin Yeemik who attempts to take over the tribe. But when the dragon kin Barash threatens the remaining goblins they turn on Yeemik and kill him.

The party discovers stolen crates bearing a blue lion symbol and takes them and Sildar to safety, leaving the remaining goblins and wolves in the cave awaiting further orders from their new leader Barash.

The session ended with the party continuing on their way to Phandalin.
